Tony Arrasmith and Little Brother Mike:
Matched for Twelve Years
Tony and Mike represent the compassion and consistency
needed in the making of a successful match. Little Brother
Mike was eight years old at the time he was matched with
Tony and in desperate need of a positive, stable relationship
with a male role model. Mike was very shy and slow to warm
up in new situations. Over their twelve-year relationship,
the pair enjoyed weekly outings including a variety of
sporting, cultural and educational activities.
At age twenty, Mike is now a confident young man. He is
employed full time, happily married and has a young son.
Big Brother Tony is now also married and has two children.
Both Tony and Mike have changed over the past twelve years,
but one thing that will not change is their commitment
to each other. Thank you, Tony, for your compassion and
willingness to share your life with Mike. |

If youre ready to be a friend, have
fun, and create wonderful memories, youre ready to be a
Big Brother, Big Sister or Big Couple!
Since 1932, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati,
has provided adult mentors to children in the Greater Cincinnati
community through our traditional mentoring program. The agency
matches a volunteer (you!) who provides friendship and shares
experiences with a child. Volunteers are at least 18 years old
and are single or married. Our married volunteers often choose
to volunteer as a Couple for Kids for the opportunity to spend
quality time together and be a mentor to a child.
How it works.
Our volunteers are the heart of our
program, Thats why we make sure help is just a phone call
away. You will be assigned a professional social worker who will
answer questions and offer guidance for as long as your match
is together. Special emphasis is placed on helping you through
the first year of the relationship with your Little. We even
schedule events for Bigs and Littles to meet other matches and
have a lot of fun.
During the first year of the match, you are encouraged to have contact with your Little at least twice a month. We know that schedules may cause conflicts,
but its important to remember regular outings are the key to building
a strong relationship. Quality time is as simple as a walk in the park,
a visit to a museum, bike riding or doing homework. Also, the agency
also provides discounts and free admission to many area attractions.
Our newsletter provides details
of upcoming events.
Remember, it is easy to be a role model - just be yourself and enjoy
sharing your time with a child!
