Scholarship Opportunities for
Graduating Little Brothers & Sisters
Attention: All Littles who will be graduating from High School in May/June. Thanks to the generosity of long-time friends of the agency, several scholarships are available for graduating seniors who are currently matched with a Big Brother/Big Sister, and who plan to continue their education at a college, university, technical school, or other post-secondary certified training program.
We are encouraging you to apply. It’s easy!! Each student must submit an essay and one letter of recommendation (from your Big Brother/Sister, school personnel, coach etc...).
What should the essay consist of? Essays should be typed; maximum of 2 pages. Essays should include a list of activities you have been involved with over the past 4 years, including school clubs, athletics, employment, church or other community activities. Please include the school you are planning to attend and a statement about your educational and career goals. Additionally, you should tell us what influence having a Big Brother/Big Sister has had in your life. Note that BBBS will be looking at financial need, community involvement and leadership experience in considering students for the scholarship awards.
When is it due?
The essay and letter of recommendation must be in by March 25th.
How will students be recognized? Scholarship recipients will be formally recognized on July 27, 2008 at the Big Brothers Big Sisters Annual Meeting at Coney Island. If possible we would like you, your Big Brother/Sister, and your parent(s) to attend.
