Erin, a recent graduate of Ursuline Academy,
played a major role in making the mentor program with St.
Joseph Elementary School a success.
At the start of her junior year, Erin joined the Big Brothers Big
Sisters program along with approximately 50 others. She was matched
with Rodneysha and they saw each other every Thursday for two full
school years. Most of the time was devoted to academic concerns although
at the end of the period they enjoyed talking about other topics.
Additionally, one Saturday each month Erin and Rodneysha took part
in a planned activity, like a trip to Kings Island.
Next year Erin will attend Appalachian State University in North
Carolina, where a golf scholarship awaits her, but she knows that
her friendship with Rodneysha will remain strong.

Bow Wow Pow Wow program
The Bow Wow Pow Wow program began at Thomas Edison Elementary School in Covington Kentucky this month. The program offers a unique opportunity to have the students read library books to the volunteers…..dogs!! By reading to the dogs this gives the Little Brothers and Little Sisters an opportunity to be able to read without being criticized or teased and helps give them a boost in their reading skills. If you and your favorite pooch would like to volunteer, please contact Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati at 513-421-4120.

Being a positive role model!
We have several opportunities in local schools and community locations for volunteers to mentor a child during and after the school day. Becoming a mentor to a school child is similar to becoming a Big Brother Big Sister, except your visits with the child are at school and community locations only. Several local companies have adopted local schools and pair their employees with school children to have lunch with them, provide tutoring, and get involved with the school on a regular weekly basis.
