Frequently Asked Questions

Doing good is a beautiful thing. As a Big Sister, you can give a girl an opportunity to see beyond her everyday world and dream big. It’s good for your Little as well as your community.

In just a few hours, a couple times a month you can give a Little Sister the invaluable gift of your friendship. By simply changing her perspective of what the world can offer, you can start changing her life. Play a board game. Make fun crafts. Hit the playground together. Just as your options are unlimited, so is your Little Sister’s potential.

What's the application process like?
It starts by filling out the on-line application. Our team will follow-up and you can expect a reference and police check, plus an in person interview. Our Match Enrollment team wants to make sure we know you so we can match you with just the right Little Sister, so the two of you can have an impactful, life-changing friendship. For more information about being a Big, please contact our VP of Programs, Donna Herrmann-Vogel, at vogel@bigsforkids.org or 513-421-4120 ext. 822.

When can I see my Little Sister?
You, along with your Little Sister and her parent/guardian, decide together what you want to do. We recommend that you keep a consistent schedule of outings and get together on a regular basis. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati will provide more guidance on this and the great news is your Match Support Specialist is just an e-mail or phone call away.
*BBBSGC is currently introducing Bigs and Littles “virtually” and if you choose, the friendship can begin over the phone, Facetime, Google Duo, etc. BBBSGC guidelines currently allow face to face interaction and you will be able to do some fun activities together as long as social distancing guidelines are followed.  This includes wearing a mask, staying six feet apart, and only doing outside activities.

What kind of support can I expect from Big Brothers Big Sisters once I get matched?
Once you are matched with your Little Sister, a Match Support Specialist from the agency will be in regular contact with you to provide assistance and give feedback. Any time you are unsure about what to do or how to handle a situation, you will have a Match Support Specialist there to help. They’ll help you with ideas for activities, guidance for handling possible difficult situations, and feedback on how you are making a difference.

Will I become a replacement parent?
No. Littles have a parent or guardian in their life already. What they need is a Big to spend quality, one-on-one time with them. Someone to have fun with, someone they can confide in, someone like you!
Know someone who’d be a great Big Brother?

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati, we’re always looking for more men to be mentors.
We have boys ready and waiting to be matched with a role model. So tell the guys you know to sign up to
become Bigs. They can do all the fun things they love to do already, like see movies, play video games, and
go hiking, only now they'd get to enjoy it with a child who can truly benefit from it.

More than 70% of our children waiting for a Big are boys, but only 3 out of every 10 inquiries to volunteer come
from men. Research shows that having the positive influence of a Big Brother makes a real difference in a
boy's life. So join the hundreds of thousands of volunteers who give a young person someone to look up to.
