Families living in poverty in Cincinnati face challenges such as fractured family structures, lack of education, unstable housing, food insecurity, and unemployment, exposure to crime, violence, and drug abuse. 95% of the children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati live in families that live below the Federal Poverty Level and experience some or all of these realities, creating major barriers that prevent a family from moving out of poverty. We know all kids have incredible potential and now we are deliberately asking you to shine a light on this potential and the role we all play as Defenders of Potential.
Research shows that, even under stressful conditions, supportive, responsive relationships with caring adults early in life can prevent or reverse the damaging effects of toxic stress response.
Mentoring works and we are proud that our agency:
