MARCH 2022
Meet Big Sister Shelly Batch and Little Sister Londyn, who’ve been matched in our community-based program in Dearborn County since June.

For Londyn’s birthday in October, Shelly gave her a $25 budget and told her she could choose whatever she wanted to do; they could go shopping for something for Londyn or do an activity together. At the same time, Shelly was working on a service project filling shoeboxes with Christmas items to mail overseas to children in need. Londyn chose to spend her $25 birthday budget to fill her own shoebox so she could send it to a child!

During the holidays, Shelly and Londyn also purchased items and filled Ziploc bags that were donated to a group who distributed them to people in Cincinnati experiencing homelessness. When they aren't busy doing service projects together, Shelly and Londyn enjoy going to the movies or library and doing crafts at the park. Londyn, who is a dancer, also played football this year and Shelly cheered her on at a few of her games.

Shelly often talks about how she admires Londyn's bravery and courage, as well as her wonderful sense of selflessness. Londyn and her mom, Crystal, share their gratitude for Shelly being so giving of her time. The two make a great pair and have a lot of fun together!
Our thanks to Shelly and Londyn for being part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati.

FEBRUARY 2022
Big Sister Jasmine Riddlespiger and her Little Sister Ma’Siyiah were matched in our Site-Based program last year.

We talked with Jasmine about her decision to become a Big. She tells us, “Mentoring youth has always been a passion of mine. I joined Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati to provide support, guidance and to help my Little Sister achieve personal goals. I hope she sees me as a positive mentor and someone she can count on.   I have learned so much about Ma’Siyiah as she enjoys sharing stories about her day and expressing how kind-hearted and caring she is for her friends and family.”

Jasmine says she remains motivated to be a Big Sister because, “Ma’Siyiah looks forward to us meeting each week and she enjoys our time together. Joining Big Brothers Big Sisters is more than a commitment. Consistency and support are important.  For me, I hope to gain more knowledge of her goals to pertaining to STEM when she grows up.    During the time of our match, the best thing that has happened has been working with my Little Sister to work on her goals in a fun and learning way.”

Our thanks to Jasmine and Ma’Siyiah for being part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati.
