Meet Big Sister Venita and Little Sister Jayela
Our Match of the Day spotlight shines on Big Sister Venita Robinson and her LS Jayela, who have been matched for four years. (It was Jayela’s 7th birthday when her mom called Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati to see if she could be matched with a Big Sis!) Venita and Jayela have had many adventures together including going to movies, attending BBBS sponsored events, volunteering, visiting local parks, family gatherings, plays, board games and cooking together.
Both are very involved in their churches and frequently attend church activities together.
Last year, Venita moved from Cincinnati to Columbus due to a career opportunity but remained committed to making continuing in her match, and so was Jayela. They have made this work by having monthly visits and sending letters and cards to each other. They don’t communicate by phone because Jayela doesn’t have one, but she recently borrowed a phone so she could text her Big Sister a picture of her terrific “A/B Honor Roll” report card!
Venita says that even though they see each other only once a month, she knows how much both see and Jayela value their match—which makes it easy for both of them to make their friendship a priority.
